Russian President V.V. Putin approved the transfer of Magadan Sokol Airport from federal ownership to the region in order to attract investment. The transfer of the airport to the ownership of the region will attract investment in the amount of at least 4.78 billion RUB for the comprehensive reconstruction and modernization of infrastructure facilities of the international airport.
The existing Magadan Sokol Airport is a federal airport, which received international status in 1991. Given the peculiarities of its geographical position, Magadan Sokol Airport is a single option for connecting residents of the Magadan Region with the regions of the Russian Federation, and therefore the development of the airport is one of the region's priority projects.
The creation of a new advanced transportation facility will serve both the effective solution of practical industry-specific problems and the shaping of the region's image. The stepwise implementation of the airport development project will raise the level of passenger service quality up to global standards and will become one of the drivers for the development of the tourism industry in the Far East.
Location: within the boundaries of Sokol, Magadan.
Logistic accessibility from the airport to the center of a constituent entity of the Federation (Magadan) is 50 km, to the Magadan seaport - 55 km, to the federal highway R-504 “Kolyma” - 1.5 km.
Plans for the reconstruction and modernization of the air transportation facilities of Magadan Sokol Airport:
- Construction of a new air terminal complex.
- Construction of a new landside area after the demolition and disposal of existing buildings and structures.
- Reconstruction of the existing terminal building into a cargo terminal or construction of a new one.
- Reconstruction of the landside area, drainage facilities of the landside area adjacent to the existing terminal building.
